Greek Gods and Rock-and-Roll

OConnor-Book

On November 4, the entire fourth grade packed the library for a presentation by George O’Connor, author of the wildly popular Olympians series of graphic novels. O’Connor kept the kids on the edge of their seats with inside information about the Greek Gods (such as the awkward Ares-Aphrodite-Hephaestus triangle). He also talked about how he plans, draws, and writes his books and gave kids a glimpse of his preliminary sketches for his upcoming volume on Apollo.

LenVlahos-Book

O’Connor’s visit was part of the library’s Middle School Author Series. Last month in the series, the eighth grade heard from Len Vlahos, author of The Scar Boys, a coming of age novel featuring rock and roll. He read from his book and played guitar, then invited students to perform for the group. Several took him up on it, playing guitar and singing.
