Working with Children

Arab American Family Support Center
This is an opportunity to help increase literacy and math skills in young children, who need homework help. Responsibilities would also include setting up after-school projects.

This is an incredible opportunity! At BAC you will be working one-on-one with autistic
students, helping with social-modeling, and assisting teachers prepare lessons. Film-

Puppetry Arts
A fun event for children (and parents) who like hands-on art projects! We are looking for
volunteers to make puppets with young children at various events around Brooklyn and
to decorate and host the annual Halloween Carnival in Park Slope.

Working with Older Adults

The Jubilee Center
(Senior Center) – Do you like to sing, dance and entertain others? Then this set of events is for you! These social visits would include group visits to the senior center to meet and entertain our local friends.

(supporting Brooklyn’s older adults). Want to help support Brooklyn’s older adults? This would be an on-going or one-time assistance visit to help clients or manage administrative tasks within the office.

Our latest project to provide emotional support for the victims of the Japan earthquake

A new project that aims to discover ways to help newly arriving refugee families
acclimate to their new lives. Incredible!  Last year we helped by locating and moving furniture and taking some recent teen arrivals bowling!

and long-term effects of their illness.

JCC – Wrap it Up!
The biggest holiday community service program in the city!! Join hundreds of teens as you wrap donated presents and create holiday cards for children in need. Enjoy a live DJ and entertainment, free food, and good company, while helping to brighten the holidays for needy New York City kids. Jewish Board of Services to Families and Children – Sanctuary Stitchers Project
Students and teachers will knit and crochet squares to make a warm blanket for a child who is in transitional housing. What a great way to help the community in the spirit of the holidays!

The HOPE Project
Help run a computer drive for those gaining new jobs skills and getting back into the workforce. Create binders with ideas for appropriate work attire; advertise for adult volunteers.  Help discover new ways to support local area residents.

Become a homework helper at your local branch.  Help students in grades 1 through 8.  A minimum of 2 hours per week is required, from 3-6 PM on weekday afternoons. Complete an application at one of the branches or online at www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org  or call 718-230-2406.
