Michaele and Milo’s Preschool Threes have hopped on Duke Ellington’s “A Train” and taken a ride uptown and back in time about one hundred years to the Harlem Renaissance, where they will meet and get to know many different artists—painters, sculptors, writers, photographers, musicians and dancers. They recently spent some time with Romare Bearden’s intricately layered collages and marveled at how he wove together photographs, painted paper and sometimes snippets of fabric to create these striking works. Then they gave it a try, making collages inspired by Bearden’s “The Block” (a series of collaged panels depicting a block in Harlem) about our very own preschool block!
