Upper Middle School Play: The Secret Side

The Saint Ann’s Theater Department presents: The Secret Side

It’s the first day of school in 2034, and the ONLY thing students are allowed to bring to school is…a device. As these students become overwhelmed by the digital expectations that define their lives, they find themselves magically transported to a new world in which there is no power. Their devices do not work, and they have to remember how to use physical objects to solve their problems.

Originally conceived and written in 2014 with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at Saint Ann’s in collaboration with playwright and Saint Ann’s theater teacher Gena Oppenheim, this play celebrates the physical objects that hold memories of the past and the stories of connection that they bring.

Performed by seventh and eighth grade students with original music written by the ensemble.

Written by Gena Oppenheim in collaboration with Birgitta Victorson and the ensemble, both past and present.

Directed by Birgitta Victorson
