On Wednesday, October 19 the boys and girls Varsity Cross Country teams competed in the ACIS Championship at Van Cortlandt Park. Their determination and hard work over the 11-week season paid off with everyone running personal best at the race.
The boys team includes Gabe Merkel, Angus Jenilek, Artie Carpenter, Jake Fink, Gus Carpenter; senior captains George Shenusay and Miles Thomas. Out of 70 runners the boys team had four runners finish in top 20 and three runners receive medals to the top 15 runners ( Gabe Merkel – 10th, Angus Jenilek- 13th, Artie Carpenter 15th). This strong performance by the boys helped them take home a plaque, which is awarded to the top 2 teams. This is the first time in Saint Ann’s history that the boys have finished in 2nd place in ACIS League Championships.
For the girls Cally Ancona Carr, Maddie Whoriseky, and Christina MacIntosh all ran personal bests on the brisk fall day. Cally ended with the best time of the group and finished with a 9th place medal. The team will compete in one more race at the NYSIAS State Championships on Nov 6., against over 120 runners. Wish them luck!
